Preview

A new-look RangeGoats Golf Club didn’t get off to the quick start it wanted at Mayakoba, but for Captain Bubba Watson, there’s no need to panic. The tight fairways of Mayakoba were always going to be a challenge for the team which is comprised of big hitters who enjoy attacking golf courses off the tee. Overall, the team feels like they are headed in the right direction and they are eager to get on a course more suited to their style of play.

The talent is there for RangeGoats GC, and it starts at the top. Watson started slowly in 2023 and didn’t record a top-10 finish until the sixth event of the season in Tulsa. But things are already different this year. Watson, finally healthy, was his team’s top finisher at the season opener at Mayakoba, and his infectious persona will be perfect for a team with two new faces in Matthew Wolff and Peter Uihlein.

Speaking of Wolff, the ultra-talented 24-year-old is already responding positively to a change of scenery. A year after not playing to his ability in 2023, Wolff appeared relaxed and confident at Mayakoba, where he closed with a stellar 3-under 68 in the final round to finish even par for the week. As Wolff continues to grow more comfortable on his new team, and with Watson’s leadership, expect him to become one of the best storylines of 2024.

Another new face is Peter Uihlein, who had an up-and-down start at Mayakoba but had a nice even-par 71 on Sunday when all scores counted. His close friendship with Wolff will be a huge positive both on the course and off. And let’s not forget about Thomas Pieters, who proved once again to be a steady and needed contributor after counting all three scores in Mexico.

As LIV Golf Las Vegas gets underway this week, look for RangeGoats GC to rebound nicely. It’s not an overly long course and relies on a good short game, and the names on this roster are among the best in the world around and on the greens.
