RangeGoats GC recap Jeddah

RangeGoats Golf Club had plenty of confidence entering LIV Golf Jeddah. After all, the club was coming off a team podium finish with a third place showing at LIV Golf Las Vegas.

But nothing is guaranteed in golf, especially when a team member withdraws due to illness.

The RangeGoats GC didn’t get much going from the start at Royal Greens and finished in 12th place. But with three events under their belts, the RangeGoats find themselves in a solid seventh place in the season-long team standings as LIV Golf Hong Kong approaches.

The RangeGoats, who had six top-three finishes and a team win last season, were led by Peter Uihlein (T-37), opened with an impressive 3-under 67 in the first round but couldn’t follow it up with another round under par on Saturday. His teammates, however, fared better on Saturday as Captain Bubba Watson shot a stellar 4-under 66 and Thomas Pieters shot 3-under 67.

The final round was what hurt the team most. No player shot under par on Sunday, when all four scores counted.

The team suffered a setback that was out of its control on Saturday as Matthew Wolff had to withdraw due to illness after three holes. For the final round, Wolff was replaced by reserve player Wade Ormsby, who shot 2-over 72.
